Finland 2025
Focus on Finland – Nordic Star Festival 2025
This year, the Nordic Star Festival proudly highlights Finnish cinema in collaboration with the Finnish Institute in Sweden.
Through this partnership, the festival celebrates the strength, poetry, and quiet intensity that characterizes Finnish filmmaking — from its deep humanism to its distinctive visual storytelling.
The 2025 festival features a special Finnish film theme, with screenings that showcase both emerging voices and established masters from Finland’s vibrant film scene.
As part of this year’s celebration, the festival is honored to present the Filmmaker of the Year Finland Award to the acclaimed director Juho Kuosmanen, known for his tender and emotionally resonant storytelling in films such as The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki and Compartment No. 6.
Kuosmanen’s work reflects the spirit of Finnish cinema — minimalist yet profound, deeply human yet quietly epic — and his contribution continues to inspire filmmakers across the Nordic region and beyond.
The Nordic Star Festival is proud to recognize his artistry and to strengthen the cultural bridge between Sweden and Finland through this year’s collaboration.
